Maria attended Auckland University graduating with her BA.LLB in 1994. She has been practicing since being admitted to the Bar in the same year.

Since commencing practice Maria has represented a significant number of people charged with a wide range of offences ranging from first time offenders seeking diversion to people facing the most serious charges including murder, manslaughter and class A drug offending.

Through this work she has become a highly effective trial lawyer with a broad, up to date knowledge of criminal law and Court procedure.

Maria has developed a reputation for her advocacy skills, her integrity and the quality of the legal advice she provides. She regularly appears in District Courts throughout New Zealand, the High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Maria is also a successful and highly experienced youth advocate representing young people, under 17 years of age, who require legal counsel.

Maria is a member of the New Zealand and Auckland District Law Societies. She is also a member of the International Bar Association, the New Zealand Bar Association, the Criminal Bar Association (NZ) and the Legal Research Foundation.
